A Spring Weekend in Hanover: May 25
The Class of 1968 has a big Saturday planned on Saturday, May 25. Your Class Committee will have a meeting at 11 am in the Zimmerman Lounge at Blunt Alumni Center. All classmates and their partners are welcome to this meeting to talk about Class projects and future initiatives.
At 3 pm we have arranged for a private tour of the new Hood Museum.
After the tour, at 5 pm, we are arranging for a catered class barbeque at AD. Cost will be $25 per person. RSVP for the tour and/or the barbeque by May 18 to John Engelman. Please RSVP to John, even if you've already RSVP'd, because early RSVPs have been lost.
And at 8 pm, the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra will perform the world premier of the Orozco Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, which has been commissioned by classmate Roger Arvid Anderson. We have lined up a block of seats for classmates and guests in Spalding Auditorium. Seats will be $25 and can be ordered directly from the Hopkins Center, by calling 603-646-2422 and mentioning the Class of 1968 seats. Tickets can be picked up that day at the box office, or mailed to you for a small additional fee. Seats must be ordered by May 15, after which the ticket hold is removed.
Tracks Concert and pre-Concert Dinner: August 10
A final reminder of the Class of 1968 mini-reunion on Saturday, August 10, scheduled around a concert in White River Junction, VT, that includes Tracks, the rock band classmates Steve Calvert and Peter Wonson helped to found in September 1968. This is a two band show, featuring Tracks and The Better Days Band.
Both bands were among the top rock bands of the 60s and 70s Northern New England music scene. They are likely to play music from such acts as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone, The Band, The Allman Brothers, Steely Dan, Procol Harum and others, as well as some of the most popular Tracks originals from the early 70s.
The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. on August 10th at The Engine Room on South Main Street in White River. Each band will play an hour+ set, and the show will end around 9:00 p.m. The "geezer hours" show time is intentional, since it will allow folks in our age bracket to get home at a relatively sensible hour.
Tickets will be sold online at the Brown Paper Tickets site, a well-regarded and widely used online ticket operation. Ticket sales begin on Monday, July 1, at noon EDT. If the show does not sell out online, there may be some walk up tickets available the night of the performance. Ticket sales are capped at 210 attendees. Purchase your tickets to the event on the Brown Paper Tickets site.
In addition to the concert, the Class of 1968 will have an early dinner that Saturday to which classmates and spouses/partners are invited. It will be held at Salt Hill Pub on the green in Lebanon. We will gather shortly before 4:30, and depending on numbers we will have a room reserved for us. The intent is to be finished with dinner and out the door at 5:45, then make the 15 minute drive to White River and be at The Engine Room when the doors open at 6:00.
You are encouraged to attend both the class dinner and the performance that follows, but doing both is not mandatory. You certainly may do one and not the other. Each day beginning on July 1 Brown Paper Tickets will send a list of the names of ticket purchasers (and number of tickets purchased) to Peter Wonson, the concert event manager. If you purchase tickets, Peter will contact you individually about attending the class dinner. We need to have a final number for Salt Hill by Wednesday, August 7, to determine whether we will have their side room or will eat in the main dining area at adjoining tables. If you want to go to dinner but not the concert, or if you have any questions about either event, you should contact Peter at 540-989-3841 or by email at .
A second reminder: the Class Committee will be meeting that morning, at 11 am, August 10, in the Zimmerman Lounge in Blunt Alumni Center. All classmates are welcome to attend.
Homecoming Weekend, October 11-12, and a follow-on the 13-15:
Dartmouth Homecoming weekend is October 11-12. As you know, we always organize a mini-reunion in the fall for Homecoming, and this year’s will be over the Columbus Day weekend against Yale, ending with a class dinner at Dowd’s Inn in Lyme Saturday night. We considered organizing a class mini-reunion in Stowe, Vermont on October 13-15 following Homecoming. Due to lack of interest, the Stowe follow-on has been canceled.
Dartmouth Football at Yankee Stadium in NYC, November 9:
On November 9, 2019, the Dartmouth football team will take the field in Yankee Stadium against Princeton in a classic match-up. We are planning a weekend full of class activities which we hope you will be able to attend.
First, we have reserved rooms for class members at the Dartmouth Club (which is located at the Yale Club at 50 Vanderbilt Ave.). You must make your own reservations, and you can do so by calling 212-716-2150 and mentioning the Dartmouth Class of 1968 reserved rooms.
Second, on Friday evening, November 8, we will gather at the Dartmouth Club for a welcome cocktail party.
Third, on Saturday afternoon, we are arranging van transportation from the Dartmouth Club to and from Yankee Stadium.
Fourth, the game is at 3:30 and you must purchase your own tickets, which you may do by logging on to DartmouthSports.com, selecting the button for Tickets, and then selecting the button for Yankee Stadium tickets. Opinions vary on whether it is preferable to sit in the premium seats or in the south end zone. We expect that there will be a Dartmouth party room somewhere at the Stadium.
Fifth, we are organizing a dinner on Saturday night at Sparks, a noted steakhouse that is a short walk from the Dartmouth Club. We're working on getting a speaker.
Sixth, we'll wrap up the festivities with a brunch on Sunday at the Dartmouth Club.
In order to go forward with the planning, we need to know ASAP whether you are planning to attend and, if so, which events you will attend. So. please let us know by emailing Roger Witten. Also, direct any questions to Roger or Bill Rich.
